Ignoring your Mental Health Could Be the Reason Why You Can’t Gain Muscle

Mental health and physical fitness are two sides of the same coin. While most people are aware of the importance of physical fitness in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, mental health is often overlooked. However, taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health, and the two are interconnected.

Taking care of your mental health is essential for better physical fitness.

There is a strong connection between mental health and physical fitness. Good mental health can help you maintain better physical fitness and vice versa. Mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, and persistent stress can have a negative impact on your physical health. These issues can lead to decreased motivation, decreased energy levels, and a higher risk of developing chronic diseases.

So its unsurprising to say that maintaining good mental health can have a positive impact on your physical health. When you feel happy and motivated, you are more likely to engage in physical activities that improve your health.

Physical activities such as HIIT and weight training have been shown to improve mental health by reducing stress and anxiety, increasing self-esteem, and boosting mood.

Here are some tips for taking care of your mental health to improve your physical fitness:

  1. Get Enough Sleep: Sleep is essential for good mental health and physical fitness. Lack of sleep can lead to fatigue, mood swings, and increased stress levels. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep every night.

  2. See a therapist: If you have unresolved feelings about an event or period in your life, that can stop you from moving forward. By regularly seeing a psychologist, or counsellor, you can work through these feelings and start to plan your future.

  3. Move Your Body Regularly: Try and aim for 3 x 10 minute bursts of activity per day. It can be walking, cycling, stretching, swimming, yard work, or cleaning the house. If one or more of these can be outdoors in direct sunlight, that's even better!

  4. Eat a Balanced Diet: This is essential for good mental and physical health. Aim to eat as many colours as possible. Think about adding various fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats.

  5. Take Breaks: Taking breaks throughout the day can help reduce stress and improve mental health. Take a few minutes to meditate, play with your pet(s), or take a walk.

  6. Practice Self-Care: Carving time out for ourselves can seem impossible, or even selfish. However it's quite the opposite! Make time for activities that you enjoy, such as reading, listening to music, or spending time with loved ones.

To wrap it up, taking care of your mental health is essential for improving your physical fitness. Good mental health can lead to increased motivation, energy levels, and a decreased risk of developing chronic diseases. To improve your mental health, aim to get enough sleep, find joyful movement, exercise regularly, eat a balanced diet, take breaks, and practice self-care.

By taking care of your mental health, you can more easily stick to your fitness routine and lead a happier, stronger life.
