It’s Not About Food
After reflecting on my journey as a personal trainer, fitness coach, and advocate for trans and marginalized communities, I realized it was time for a fresh start with my podcast.
I’ve been thinking a lot about how I want my podcast to grow, not just in terms of listeners, but in terms of impact. My new clear focus: conversations about holistic, affirming healthcare and fitness for trans, gender-diverse, and other marginalized communities.
The new direction? Conversations about holistic, affirming healthcare and fitness for trans, gender-diverse, and other marginalized communities.
This isn’t just about workouts, diet tips, or fitness trends. It’s about the people behind the work, the systemic barriers they face, and the innovative ways they’re creating care and connection for communities who need it most.
The successes, the roadblocks, and the visions for what truly compassionate care could look like when systems aren’t stacked against you.
To kick things off, I’ve had the privilege of speaking with Vero Connan, a registered dietitian working in the Parc-Extension community of Montreal. Vero’s work focuses on asylum seekers and visible minorities, families and parents living in food insecurity, and people navigating huge systemic barriers just to get the basic care they deserve. In our conversation, we talked about:
What community-based healthcare really looks like day-to-day
Why food insecurity is never just about food
The mental health impact of isolation and poverty
How a community garden project became a lifeline for families
What trans-affirming and identity-affirming nutrition care can look like
The gaps in current healthcare training — and what needs to change
It was the kind of conversation that reminds me why I started this work in the first place. And it was the perfect way to set the tone for this new season of the podcast.
I’m intentionally starting slow — one episode a month. My goal is to give each guest and their story the space it deserves, and to make sure the conversations are rich, thoughtful, and actionable for listeners.
But I’m also open. If more amazing professionals reach out to be on the show! From dietitians to physiotherapists to fitness coaches doing innovative, inclusive work — I’ll increase the frequency. I want this podcast to grow organically, around real stories and real needs, rather than chasing a number of episodes or downloads.
If you’re working in health, fitness, or community care; especially with trans, gender-diverse, or marginalized populations, and you’ve got a story or insight to share, I’d love to hear from you. My hope is that The Resilient Fitness Revolution becomes a space for learning, reflection, and inspiration for anyone interested in holistic, affirming care.
The first episode featuring Vero Connan is live now, on the player embedded above, or watch our cute faces on Youtube! I promise it’s a conversation that will stay with you long after you finish listening. And if this resonates, consider subscribing, sharing, or sending someone who’d benefit from hearing these stories in your direction.
This is just the beginning and I can’t wait to see where this new season takes us.
Happy training,
Coach Dibs
